About the role

The Law 856 Housing Law and Policy Clinic I at the USC Gould School of Law seeks a part-time lecturer to co-teach the course. This course provides students with valuable lawyering skills and helps improve lives and communities through their work.

Responsibilities

  • Support students in developing valuable lawyering skills
  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of the housing crisis, including institutional injustices, economic factors, and ethical considerations
  • Represent indigent tenants and work with community-based housing organizations on representation, strategic litigation, and policy matters
  • Teach and supervise students on local housing policy, direct service work with low-income tenants, and oversee policy work
  • Participate in the current strategic litigation the Clinic is involved with

Requirements

  • JD degree
  • California Bar membership
  • Experience working with LA City Council's Housing & Homelessness Committee
  • Experience with direct services for low-income RSO tenants
  • Knowledge of local laws impacting tenants in the City of LA, including RSO in LA and LA County, Universal Just Cause, AB 1482, habitability law, harassment law (TAHO), and impact litigation experience
  • Ability to teach on campus

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $2,433.66 - $9,984.65 per semester.

Schedule

The course is a five-unit course that runs for the entire academic year, starting in the fall semester.
