Duties and Responsibilities
- providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules
- creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking
- evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and grades student work
- meeting with students outside of class
- maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics
- maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas
- fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member
- maintaining accurate academic records
- performing other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience
- Understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and faculty
- EDUCATION: Master's in political science, government, or international relations OR Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in economics, history, public administration, social science, sociology, and any ethnic studies, Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.) or Legum Baccalaureus (LLB.) OR the equivalent
Desirable Qualifications
- Interest in teaching California Politics and American Government
- Interest in teaching college courses at high school sites (dual enrollment)
- Demonstrated commitment to student learning and demonstrated commitment to promoting the success of all students in an open-access learning environment,
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and ability to motivate and teach community college students of diverse ethnic backgrounds, cultures, preparation learning styles, and/or disabilities,
- Commitment to professional growth and development and to innovation and improvement of teaching
