About the Role

Wake Technical Community College is seeking to expand our pool of part-time faculty to teach Political Science classes. Openings for these positions may or may not be available at this time; however, after a review of qualifications, applicants may be contacted in the future. Adjunct faculty positions provide quality, effective instruction in assigned courses on a part-time, temporary basis.

Responsibilities

  • Instructs and guides the class in an efficient and effective manner
  • Maintains accurate records of student work and attendance
  • Prepares thoroughly for each instructional hour
  • Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment
  • Grades and returns student work in a timely manner
  • Counsels students regarding their grades and progress in the course
  • Constructs classroom materials that support the goals of the course
  • Designs curriculum and a schedule of instruction
  • Uses assessment techniques to improve learning and teaching
  • Maintains communication with instructors from other divisions in order to keep courses up-to-date and appropriate
  • Attends professional development opportunities when possible

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and maintain positive working relationships with students, peers, supervisors and staff
  • Working knowledge of MS Office products
  • Knowledge of Blackboard, an online teaching tool, is preferred

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Political Science OR a Master's degree with 18 graduate-level course hours in Political Science
  • Unofficial college transcripts must be uploaded with your application or submitted to the HR office prior to consideration for interview

Preferences

  • Community college teaching experience
