Adjunct Instructor of Theatre History and Literature AD9514

About the role

Oklahoma State University’s Department of Theatre seeks a dynamic and dedicated adjunct instructor to teach Theatre history before 1800 in the fall of 2026 and Theatre History after 1800, and Contemporary Voices of American Drama for the Spring 2027 starting August 2026. The Adjunct Instructor teaches core courses in our BA and BFA in Theatre Arts programs.

Responsibilities

• Pedagogy & Course Delivery: Teach core undergraduate courses in Theatre History (spanning classical to contemporary eras) and Contemporary Voices of American Drama.
• Introductory Instruction: Teach introductory-level coursework, engaging non-majors with the foundations, appreciation, and cultural impact of live performance.
• Theatrical & Analytical Versatility: Demonstrate proficiency in teaching a wide range of dramatic texts and historical movements, ensuring students are ready to engage with both traditional theatrical canons and modern, multidisciplinary performance landscapes.

Requirements

• Terminal Degree: A Ph.D.; MFA; or BFA with 5 years of professional experience in Theatre History, Dramatic Literature, Theatre Studies, or a closely related performance/pedagogy field. ABD credentials will be considered. (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
• Pedagogical Excellence: A demonstrated track record of expertise and excellence in teaching theatre history and dramatic literature.
• University Experience: Prior experience working with undergraduate students in a university or conservatory setting.

• Communication & Leadership: Possess strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills necessary to conduct a seminar and advise a diverse student body effectively.
