Adjunct Instructor of Marching Band

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Congduct the Marching (during football season) and Symphonic Bands (after football season concludes).
  • Teach potential course in Marching Band Techniques.
  • Provide programming service to the SMT and larger Heidelberg Community.

Desired Attributes and Qualifications

  • Education and Professional Experience:
    • Bachelor's in Music Education is required.
    • A MM, DMA, or PhD in Music Education is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of secondary school teaching experience, including both marching band and symphonic band programming.
  • 5 years teaching experience preferred.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • The ability to lead and develop a collegiate band program, and excellent classroom teaching skills are crucial.
  • Demonstrated experience in wind band conducting with broad knowledge of repertoire.
  • Recruiting ability is a primary requirement.
  • Proven success in building an instrumental program at the secondary level is required.
  • The ability to collaborate with faculty, ensembles and programs within the School of Music and Theatre.
  • Support and service to the School of Music and Theatre and to broad University constituencies is expected.
  • The ability to act as a representative for the School of Music and Theatre and Heidelberg University.
  • Outstanding oral communication skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks, collaborating with colleagues and student workers.
  • The ability to travel and work weekends as needed according to SMT programming and recruitment endeavors.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

  • Variety of instructional technologies including, but not limited to Google Suite, learning management systems such as Canvas, video conferencing, etc.
  • Fluency on Pyware or other marching band drill programming is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in office and classroom settings as well as educational facilities including sports and entertainment venues, all of which may be indoor or outdoor.
  • The employee may occasionally travel which may include evening and weekend commitments.
  • The noise level in the work environment will range from quiet to moderately loud.
