Adjunct Instructor for the School of Humanities

About the role

An Adjunct Instructor in the School of Humanities provides instruction to undergraduate students in communication, English, history, media, philosophy, political science, and/or writing. Instructors teach part-time on an as-needed basis in a variety of formats, including in-person, hybrid, and online, and at varied class times that may include evenings.

Responsibilities

• Teach courses in communication, English, history, media, philosophy, political science, and/or writing as needed in Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters based on candidate expertise and qualifications (in-person or online).
• Utilize innovative and collaborative teaching methods in support of the School’s mission and learning objectives.
• Perform other essential duties as assigned or outlined in the Faculty Manual.

Qualifications

Required

• Master’s Degree or appropriate professional experience in a related field.
• Teaching/instructional experience.

Preferred

• Ph.D. or ABD in a related field.
• Documented background in the related instructional area.
• Two years of college-level teaching experience.

• Frequent use of arms, hands, and fingers to operate and manipulate office equipment.
• Frequent mobility, communication, and hearing.
• Occasional exposure to outdoor environmental conditions (heat, cold, precipitation).
• Frequent lifting and/or moving of up to ten (10) pounds; occasional lifting and/or moving of more than fifty (50) pounds.
• Vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Occasional stress while performing job duties.

Work Environment

• Frequent work in office settings and educational facilities, including sports and entertainment venues (indoor or outdoor).
• Noise levels range from moderately quiet to occasionally loud.
