About the Role
Maryville University seeks an academically qualified adjunct faculty member to teach in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling department within the College of Arts and Sciences. Adjunct faculty are an integral part of the University’s learning community, teaching courses online and/or on campus.
Responsibilities
- Teach assigned courses as specified in the schedule and course contract.
- Participate in welcome orientation to become familiar with the University’s mission, academic policies and procedures, expectations, and Canvas (Learning Management System).
- Prepare essential learning objectives, lesson plans, and assignments in accordance with 2024 CACREP Standards.
- Develop course syllabus.
- Clearly communicate course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, and assignments and deadlines.
- Employ a variety of teaching styles to effectively deliver course content, demonstrating both academic and real-world applications of concepts covered.
- Encourage active learning through discussion topics, class assignments, group projects, etc.
- Provide feedback and grade assignments in a timely and thorough manner (within 24-36 hours).
- Establish digital office hours to provide additional assistance with student questions/concerns.
- Assess student learning outcomes (SLO/KPI) and participate in program evaluation processes and CACREP accreditation efforts.
- Report early alerts for students who are not actively engaging in the course.
- Participate in additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Graduate and/or professional degrees from an accredited institution in a field that supports the mission of the counseling program.
- Must demonstrate relevant preparation and/or experience in the course content being delivered and the delivery modality (e.g., online, hybrid, synchronous).
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD
- Online teaching experience
- LPC (in Missouri or Illinois)
- Clinical supervision experience
- Experience with:
- Teaching online (synchronous and/or asynchronous)
- Case conceptualization across models
- Evidence-based interventions
- Crisis/suicide assessment
- Treatment planning and documentation
