Adjunct Instructor - Clinical Faculty (Part-Time)
About the role
Provide in-person clinical teaching and patient care at the University Eye Center campus clinic (Big Rapids).
The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment.
This is a pooled position. One or more applicants may be hired as needed to provide clinical education on a semester-by-semester basis.
The anticipated start date is September 2025 and remains ongoing as needed.
Required Education
At the time of appointment, the applicant must hold the Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree.
Required Work Experience
At least one year of residency experience or have at least 2 years in patient care work experience.
Required Licenses and Certifications
At the time of appointment, the applicant must have or be eligible for a Michigan optometry license with DPA and TPA certifications for appointment to the college's clinical staff.
Physical Demands
Office Environment: Moving, Reaching, Sitting, Standing.
Skills and Abilities
Excellent clinical, interpersonal, and communication skills. Demonstrated successful experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered
Previous experience supervising and training optometry interns.
Compensation
- Tier 1: $53.97 per hour
- Tier 2: $61.97 per hour
- Tier 3: $69.97 per hour
The hourly rate will be evaluated and determined by MCO in accordance with defined criteria.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Perform duties in patient care and clinical instruction.
- Clinical faculty have professional responsibilities in patient care and clinical instruction which may include being accessible to students outside of regular clinical assignment hours, participation in traditional functions that have academic significance, which includes assessing students' clinical proficiency in accordance with university systems and guidelines.
- Clinical faculty are required to provide in-person instruction.
- Cultivate an environment of belonging that values, respects, supports, and celebrates individual similarities and differences, allowing students, faculty, and staff to thrive authentically.
- Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives.
- Participate in related FSU and/or college specific training and development activities.
