About the Role
The Part-time Adjunct Instructor is responsible for teaching the discipline with highly qualified content, thorough preparation, and meeting the academic needs of students. This position reports to the Department Chair and requires a strong commitment to diversity, leadership experience in professional state-wide or national organizations, and a record of collaboration and commitment to faculty governance.
Responsibilities
- Teach part-time credit hours of coursework each semester as specified by need.
- Hold part-time office hours per week, with half regularly scheduled and the remaining half held by appointment.
- Maintain accurate records of class attendance and performance; report non-attendance to the Registrar as requested.
- Support assessment of all associated programs, including major degree programs and Liberal Studies.
- Assign course grades in keeping with University guidelines and provide mid-term and final grades on assigned dates.
- Participate in University-sponsored faculty development programs (e.g., workshops, conferences).
- Follow all classroom procedures as described in the Faculty Handbook and provide timely feedback on student assignments.
- Meet all classes during assigned times and for the full scheduled period; cancel classes only according to University guidelines.
- Report any class absences.
- Maintain professional conduct in the classroom and with the University community.
- Demonstrate skill in using technology and teaching online courses.
Qualifications
- A Master’s Degree in the teaching discipline or at least 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline.
- Documented justifiable scholarly and professional experience in the discipline (certified by the respective College Dean) may substitute for formal education.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered.
