Adjunct Faculty Pool - Communication

About the Role

This is a part-time, Adjunct Faculty position in the Department of Communications/Graphic/Fine Arts at Southwest Tennessee Community College. The role involves teaching Communication courses across multiple campuses, with a focus on student success and community engagement. The pay per credit hour is $640. This posting is not a guarantee of an open position, as applications are reviewed on a term-by-term basis.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and delivers instruction on topics in Communication.
• Compiles, administers, evaluates, and grades students' class work, laboratory work, assignments, tests, and papers fairly and consistently, keeping students informed about their progress.
• Develops curricula and instructional materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
• Assists in student recruitment and retention, and provides support for course-related problems outside of the classroom.
• Maintains accurate student attendance records, grades, and other required records in compliance with federal FERPA regulations.
• Attends faculty meetings, college assemblies, professional development activities, and other meetings as required.
• Stays updated on developments in the field through literature, colleague interactions, and professional conferences.
• Participates in departmental and college committees, and provides outreach service to the community.
• May perform other duties as assigned by the Department Head/Dean.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree with a major in speech, oratory/rhetoric, or communication, or 18 graduate semester hours in these fields, plus a master’s degree in any discipline.
• Minimum two (2) years teaching experience in higher education, or one (1) year teaching experience and three (3) years employment in the field.

Skills

• Knowledge of current teaching and learning strategies to facilitate student-centered learning.
• Skill in selecting and using training/instructional methods appropriate for the situation.
• Ability to integrate technology into course delivery.
• Strong written communication skills.
• Willingness and flexibility to teach classes using various instructional delivery methods at any of the four locations.
