About the role

ACC is one of the few community colleges in the nation to offer an associate’s degree in Philosophy. Our Philosophy, Religion, and Humanities department is large and vigorous, serving students from Round Rock to Lockhart. The department provides students with critical thinking skills that have a broad range of applications in professional, social, and personal life. Courses cover a variety of questions and topics, spanning from classic investigations into the nature of reality, truth, and morality, to contemporary inquiries into freedom, identity, and justice. Our students frequently transfer regionally to Texas State, the University of Texas, St. Edward’s University, Southwestern University, as well as to many other quality institutions across the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and teach courses in the field of Philosophy to a multicultural student population based on the department's approved course learning outcomes, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to the needs of community college students and the standards of the discipline.
  • Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.
  • Provide teaching and mentoring services to students in a manner which does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected categories.
  • Remain current in the field through a variety of professional development activities.

Professional Standards

  • Maintain regular office hours to assist students and improve student retention and success.
  • Recognize and reflect standards of civility and collegiality in all interactions.
  • Comply with published college policies and procedures and meet professional standards for teaching in a community college.
  • Appropriate use of the college's learning management system.

Required Education

  • Master’s degree in Philosophy; or Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate hours in Philosophy
  • No substitution for educational requirements.
