About the role
Aurora Downtown Waubonsee Community College is seeking part-time Adjunct Faculty to join our Adult Education team. The ideal candidate is passionate about education and committed to helping learners achieve their educational and career goals.
Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, student-centered instruction that supports adult learners in achieving their educational and career goals.
- Create a welcoming classroom environment that fosters confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging.
- Prepare lesson plans and syllabi aligned with the approved curriculum and syllabus template.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, technologies, and learning activities to address diverse learning needs and academic skill levels.
- Absess student progress and provide timely, constructive feedback to support academic growth.
- Maintain accurate and timely records related to enrollment, attendance, grades, and student performance.
- Collaborate with Transition Advisors and other support staff to promote student persistence, retention, and successful transition to college and career pathways.
- Complete New Teacher Orientation and participate in ongoing training opportunities.
- Fulfill the State of Illinois requirement of 12 hours of Adult Education professional development annually.
- Contribute to a culture of respect, encouragement, and high expectations that empowers students to achieve life-changing educational milestones.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education, English, Mathematics, Adult Education or related field.
- Demonstrated ability to teach reading, writing, language arts, and/or mathematics to diverse learners.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency with instructional technology and basic computer applications.
- Ability to create a welcoming, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environment.
- Commitment to supporting adult learners with compassion, patience, and respect.
- Ability to adapt instruction to meet the varied academic, cultural, and personal needs of adult students.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Adult Education or related field.
- Prior experience teaching Adult Basic Education (ABE), Adult Secondary Education (ASE), GED preparation, developmental education, ESL, high school, or community college courses.
- Experience working with underserved, underprepared, or nontraditional student populations.
- Experience integrating technology into instruction and using data to inform teaching.
- Familiarity with the Illinois High School Diploma (GED) examinations and College and Career Readiness Standards.
- Bilingual proficiency is a plus.
- ICCBA Adult Education Standards Certification.
- Familiarity with Canvas, IXL, i-Pathways, and/or Essential Education learning platforms.
