About the Role

Lone Star College-CyFair offers high-quality, low-cost academic transfer and career training education to 80,000+ students each semester. Located in suburban northwest Houston in the heart of the CyFair Community, the college provides a full range of offerings including unique programs in fire science technology, logistics management, and sonography. The campus is at 9191 Barker Cypress Road, Cypress, TX 77433.

It is the responsibility of the teaching faculty to provide the learning activities and support that will lead to the achievement of the course objectives and contribute to the educational environment of the college and the community. Primary responsibilities are to plan, develop, and teach courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning. Adjunct faculty are hired in a part-time capacity on a semester-by-semester basis, contingent upon the needs of the System. Classes are offered at various times and locations during the academic year, including days, evenings, and weekends. Adjunct faculty may teach a maximum of five classes per academic year.

Responsibilities

• Teaches Fire Science Technology courses at a variety of times and locations
• Creates engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material
• Submits required college reports and forms in a timely manner
• Utilizes a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines
• Meets with and advises students either before or after class or by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods
• Evaluates students to measure their progress in achieving course objectives and informs students in a timely manner of their progress
• Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community
• Attends meetings, trainings, and orientations as required
• Performs other reasonable, related duties as assigned

• Considerable and strenuous physical exertion, such as frequent climbing of tall ladders, lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds, crouching or crawling in restricted areas, and defending oneself or others against physical attack

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in fire science or related field (AAS)
• OR a Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field with 4 years non-teaching work experience in the field
• Texas Commission of Fire Protection certifications: Fire Instructor 2, Fire Officer 1, and Fire Fighter Intermediate
• OR IFSAC seals in Fire Instructor 2, Fire Officer 1, Firefighter 1, Firefighter 2, Hazmat Awareness, and Hazmat Ops

Skills

Equipment used includes PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, general office equipment, and any specialized equipment standard within the discipline/industry. Work is performed in a climate-controlled classroom and/or lab environment with minimal exposure to safety hazards typical within the industry.

Pay

$59.80 per contact hour.

Schedule

This position will only be teaching night classes. Hours will vary depending on class time; instructors are required to meet with classes at all scheduled times and be available to students outside of class instruction.
