About the role
The Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of San Diego (USD) invites applications for a part-time teaching faculty to provide in-person instruction starting September 1, 2026. Candidates from all areas of specialization will be considered. Immediate instructional needs include but are not limited to: electromechanical systems, circuits, electrical power, and semiconductors.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate courses in electrical engineering, including electromechanical systems, circuits, electrical power, and semiconductors.
- Provide hands-on instruction and supervision of laboratory courses and design projects.
- Mentor students in capstone and senior design projects.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of course materials and curricula.
- Participate in departmental activities and initiatives.
Requirements
- Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering or closely related field with a minimum of five years of industry or academic experience (BS degree with ten years of experience, at least three of which are in teaching).
- Demonstrated teaching effectiveness at the college level or strong teaching potential.
- Breadth of competency across core EE content areas appropriate for undergraduate instruction.
- Experience teaching laboratory courses and supervising hands-on design projects.
- Industry experience, particularly in product design, systems engineering, or applied EE.
- Familiarity with ABET accreditation processes and outcomes-based assessment.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or eligibility.
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusive pedagogy and teaching diverse student populations.
Qualifications
- MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering or closely related field with a minimum of five years of experience in the industry or in academia (and candidates with a BS degree and ten years of experience, at least 3 of which are in teaching).
- Demonstrated teaching effectiveness at the college level, or evidence of strong teaching potential for candidates coming from industry.
- Breadth of competency across core EE content areas appropriate for undergraduate instruction (circuits, electronics, signals and systems, embedded systems, etc.).
Skills
- Ability to teach a variety of undergraduate electrical engineering courses.
- Experience with or interest in capstone and senior design mentorship.
- Familiarity with ABET accreditation processes and outcomes-based assessment.
- Commitment to inclusive pedagogy and teaching diverse student populations.
