Campus Information

Lone Star College-Houston North Fairbanks offers high-quality, low-cost academic transfer and career training education. Located at Highway 290 and West Little York Road, near the Sam Houston Tollway, the campus provides services such as advising, registration, counseling, and tutoring. Academic programs include basic transfer courses, developmental studies, and English for Speakers of Other Languages.

Purpose and Scope

Teaching faculty are responsible for providing learning activities and support to achieve course objectives and contribute to the educational environment of the college and community. Primary responsibilities include planning, developing, and teaching courses within the curriculum to facilitate student learning. Adjunct faculty are hired part-time on a semester-by-semester basis, contingent upon student demand. Classes are offered during days, evenings, and weekends at various times and locations throughout the academic year. Adjunct faculty may teach a maximum of five classes per academic year.

Responsibilities

• Teaches Education (EDUC 1300) courses at various times and locations.
• Creates engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material.
• Submits required college reports and forms in a timely manner.
• Utilizes a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines.
• Meets with and advises students either before or after class, by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods.
• Evaluates students to measure their progress in achieving course objectives and informs students in a timely manner of their progress.
• Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
• Attends meetings, trainings, and orientations as required.
• Performs other reasonable related duties as assigned.

Physical Abilities

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to perform the work. There may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items (e.g., papers, books, or small parts), or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required.

Work Environment

• Equipment used includes PC workstations running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculators, phones, and other general office equipment, as well as any specialized equipment standard within the discipline/industry.
• Work is performed in a climate-controlled classroom and/or lab environment with minimal exposure to safety hazards.
• Hours vary depending on class time; instructors are required to meet with classes at all scheduled times and be available to students outside of class instruction.

Qualifications

• Master's degree.
• Completion of required institutional professional development.

Pay

$55.44 per contact hour.
