Adjunct Faculty, Counseling Psychology

About the Role

The Adjunct Professor will teach select MS in Counseling Psychology program courses during its 10-week accelerated semesters. This role involves active participation in course development, assessment, and student-related activities such as holding regular office hours. The position reports to the Dean of the School of Education and Behavioral Sciences.

Responsibilities

• Teach select courses in the MS in Counseling Psychology program during its 10-week accelerated semesters
• Participate in program assessment specific to the courses taught
• Attend Adjunct meetings and MS in Counseling Psychology Advisory Board meetings
• Deliver student-focused, active-learning instruction
• Conduct assessments of student program and course learning outcomes

Education and Experience

Minimum:

• A graduate degree in Education, Psychology, or a related field
• Advanced training or relevant professional experience applicable to the course(s) being taught
• Experience conducting cognitive, behavioral, and/or personality tests in an educational or clinical setting, or clinical experience conducting counseling in an educational or community-based setting

Preferred:

• 1-year teaching experience at the university level
• Professional experience in a Hawaii Department of Education public school

• Proficient in the use of technology to support both in-class and online learning environments
• Experience working with culturally and ethnically diverse students
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and work with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body at all levels of the university
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software, learning management systems (e.g. Canvas), and other programs related to teaching, learning, advising, and assessment
• Ability to create and facilitate a meaningful learning environment
• Willingness to teach Educational Psychology courses in a diverse educational setting
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to prioritize work and resources
• Ability to meet deadlines
• High integrity and ethical standards

Pay

• $1,000 per credit hour (Masters)
• $1,200 per credit hour (Ph.D/Doctorate)

Schedule and Work Requirements

• Part-time, non-exempt position
• Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and a varying schedule
• Additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required depending on project cycles and workflow demands

Physical Requirements

• Light work in an office and community setting
• Intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines
• Must be able to lift 20 pounds
• Must have finger dexterity and excellent motor skills
• Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand
