Position Summary

The Electrical Trades Instructor is responsible for providing classroom instruction, distance learning instruction, and practical shop experience to prepare students for employment in a variety of jobs in the field of Electrical Trades. The Instructor will teach courses related to the core skills used by electricians in residential and commercial settings. Topics include safety, hand/power tool use, National Electrical Code, residential and commercial, wiring, electrical theory, blueprint reading, motor controls, and transformers. Demonstrate skill, knowledge, and abilities in the teaching discipline. Teach assigned courses in a variety of times and locations in response to institutional need. Make continuous efforts to advance the quality of instruction. Develop and use a variety of teaching methods and materials to assist students who have differing educational and experiential backgrounds in meeting the course outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in the discipline and three (3) years industry related work experience.
  • OR High school diploma or GED equivalent and ten (10) years industry related work experience.

Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Ability to plan course instruction based upon approved syllabus/outline provided to insure course content and objectives are met.
  • Ability to utilize a variety of teaching styles and methods to accommodate diverse learning styles of students.
  • Successful experience utilizing instructional technologies, including computers, internet resources and other appropriate media in instruction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to teach and communicate with students of varied multicultural backgrounds.
  • Successful teaching or vocational training experience.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to teaching strategies and methods which enhance student success.
  • Knowledge of a learning college and/or knowledge of learning communities.
  • Experience teaching college level online courses and/or documented successful training in a college online learning management system (e.g. Blackboard, Canvas).
  • Industry related Certifications such as a Master Electrician License, State of Texas.

Job Duties

  • Teach NCCER Electrical program courses.
  • Develop NCCER Electrical trades curriculum and course content.
  • Aid in maintaining NCCER program compliance activities.
  • Procure, maintain, inspect, and operate various equipment and supplies necessary for program instruction.
