General Duties

Performs highly-skilled laboratory functions and other technical duties in support of coursework.

Sets up, maintains, and organizes student laboratories.

Affords assistance to students with setting up experiments and other learning exercises, and with the use of equipment and materials.

Maintains appropriate safety and hygiene standards.

Maintains required documentation related to laboratory activities.

Manages equipment and materials inventories.

About the Role

Working under the supervision of the program director of the Photography Program, the adjunct College Laboratory Techniciansupports both instructional and technical operations of studio, darkroom, and digital imaging facilities.

The role bridges teaching support and lab management, working closely with faculty and students.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain photography facilities (darkrooms, studios, digital labs).
  • Monitor safe use of equipment and chemicals (especially in analog/darkroom spaces).
  • Manage lab schedules, open lab hours, and student access.
  • Perform minor repairs and coordinate major servicing.
  • Manage inventory of supplies (paper, chemicals, ink, etc.).
  • Enforce checkout policies and handle lost/damaged items.
  • Assist with exhibitions, recruitment visits, and program events.
  • Support faculty with course logistics and setup.
  • Maintain records of lab usage and equipment loans.
  • Help onboard and orient students to facilities.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A High School Diploma with a minimum of four years related experience.
  • Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience.

Other Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Photography or 5 years of work experience in a Photography lab and strong technical knowledge of Digital photography workflows (Adobe Creative Cloud, Capture One, etc.), Studio lighting (strobe and continuous), Analog photography and darkroom processes.
  • Availability to work nights and weekends.

Qualifications
