Essential Functions
- Instruct weekly ground school sessions (approximately 14 weeks, 1 hour 20 minutes per week).
- Deliver engaging lectures, discussions, and problem-solving exercises using FAA handbooks, Airman Certification Standards (ACS), and applicable regulations.
- Cover all core knowledge areas for the FAA Private Pilot Airplane Knowledge Exam, including Aerodynamics and aircraft systems, Flight instruments and performance, Meteorology and weather services, Navigation and flight planning, Airspace, regulations, and procedures, Aeromedical factors and human performance, Safety, decision-making, and risk management.
- Evaluate student progress through quizzes, practice exams, and participation.
- Provide feedback and guidance to prepare students for the FAA Knowledge Test.
- Offer mentoring and aviation career guidance to students pursuing pilot certification.
- Assist with syllabus development and updates in alignment with FAA standards and NJIT policies.
- Maintain compliance with FAA ground training requirements and institutional teaching standards.
- Promote a culture of aviation safety, professionalism, and lifelong learning.
Prerequisite Qualifications
- FAA Certified Flight Instructor (Airplane) with a current CFI certificate in good standing.
- In-depth knowledge of FAA Private Pilot Airplane Airman Certification Standards (ACS) and Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs).
- Strong teaching, presentation, and communication skills.
- Commitment to fostering a safe, professional, and supportive learning environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- FAA Advanced or Instrument Ground Instructor (AGI/IGI) certification.
- Prior experience teaching aviation ground school at a Part 61/141 flight school, university, or community program.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher (aviation, aeronautics, education, or related field).
- Familiarity with instructional technology and computer-based training resources.
Work Schedule
Fall 2025 Semester: One evening per week (1 hour 20 minutes per session) for 14 weeks. Potential for renewal in Spring/Summer terms based on student demand.
Salary Information
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the rate for this position is $2668 per contact hour (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
