About the role
Reporting to the Dean of Mathematics and Sciences, Adjunct Faculty will work to follow the course syllabi and lessons, activities, assignments, and assessments that accommodate diverse learning styles, ensuring students achieve the course objectives and outcomes. They will apply learner-centered teaching principles to engage and inspire students, encouraging active participation throughout the educational experience.
Responsibilities
- Plan and teach course content for both lecture and lab and assign appropriate course work.
- Select appropriate texts and teaching materials.
- Meet classes at assigned times.
- Instruct students in the proper use of lab equipment where appropriate.
- See that equipment and/or labs are properly maintained where appropriate.
- Maintain supply and equipment inventory where appropriate.
- Participate in assessment of student learning.
- Maintain student records, evaluate student progress and assign grades.
- Participate in course and program assessment in the biological sciences.
- Adhere to Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and any and policies or laws that govern higher education at Rock Valley College.
- Keep informed on the latest research and journal articles.
- Regular attendance in class is required.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Biology with significant Anatomy and Physiology coursework, or Master's Degree in Anatomical Sciences, or Master's Degree in a closely related field with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Anatomy and Physiology coursework or relevant experience is required.
- Education beyond the master's level is desirable.
- Ph.D. preferred.
- Graduate coursework in other areas of Biology strongly preferred.
- Prior teaching experience in college-level courses preferred.
