Adjunct Assistant Professor - Communication Studies
Johnson County Community College is seeking qualified applicants for part-time teaching assignments in the Communication Studies Department beginning spring 2027. Instructors are needed for teaching on-campus, face-to-face classes during morning and early afternoon hours. Online course assignments are not available for this position.
About the role
Classes may include Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, Intercultural Communication, Personal Communication, and Workplace Skills. Candidates must be able to use the Canvas LMS for syllabus distribution and grade entry.
Responsibilities
- Deliver face-to-face instruction in assigned Communication Studies courses
- Develop and maintain course materials using Canvas LMS
- Enter and manage grades electronically
- Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, staff, supervisors, and the community
Requirements
- Master’s degree with 18 graduate credit hours in Communication Studies, Communication, Speech, or Speech Communication
- Computer literacy, including the ability to communicate, develop teaching materials, and enter grades electronically
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated strong teaching ability
- One or more years of college teaching experience in the Communication Studies discipline
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Communication Studies, Communication, Speech, or Speech Communication
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the teaching mission of a comprehensive community college
- Community College teaching experience

Pay
$1,262–$1,404 per credit hour, determined by relevant years of work experience and in accordance with the adjunct faculty pay table.
