About the role

The Addiction Counselor – Outpatient provides virtual group and individual counseling to clients with substance use and related disorders in an outpatient setting. This hybrid role is based in Mill Spring, NC, with flexibility to work from home or from our Greenville, SC location.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments and develop and update treatment plans
  • Facilitate group therapy and psychoeducational sessions
  • Coordinate care with interdisciplinary team members
  • Maintain timely and accurate clinical records
  • Support relapse prevention and aftercare planning
  • Participate in case reviews and staff meetings
  • Communicate with families and community resources when clinically appropriate

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of clinical counseling skills, including assessment, diagnosis of substance use and co-occurring disorders, and development of person-centered treatment plans
  • Group and individual therapy skills, including facilitation of psychoeducational, skills-based, and process groups in an outpatient setting
  • Case management and care coordination abilities, including collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, referrals to community resources, and discharge planning
  • Strong documentation and compliance skills, including accurate recordkeeping, adherence to ethical guidelines, and familiarity with regulatory and confidentiality standards (e.g., HIPAA)
  • Relevant licensure or certification such as LCAS, LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or equivalent state-recognized credential; supervision-eligible candidates may be considered
  • Experience working with individuals affected by addiction, trauma, depression, and anxiety, preferably in outpatient or residential treatment settings
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build therapeutic rapport and work respectfully with diverse populations
  • Basic proficiency with electronic health records and telehealth platforms; comfort with hybrid work that combines on-site and remote responsibilities
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or a related behavioral health field. Masters degree, highly preferred
  • Commitment to evidence-based practices, trauma-informed care, and support for long-term recovery
