Responsibilities
- Makes immediate decisions regarding the access of learning materials in alternate format and reasonable technological accommodations based on the impact of a disability.
- Maintains and further develops the Adaptive Technology (AT) program at UTC, which includes alternative text production, management of appropriate software, and management of adaptive technology tools.
- Trains students and staff on the use of adaptive technology tools.
- Collaborates on campus-wide compliance to the standards set forth by Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act/WCAG 2.0 AA Standards and works towards developing a universal approach to information access on the campus.
- Reviews medical documentation, ensuring compliance with the ADA-AA, Section 504, local and state laws, HUD, etc., and determines reasonable accommodations for disabled students.
- Works with university partners to discuss and implement Electronic and Information Access on campus, which includes providing resources and training regarding accessible document/website creation.
Qualifications
- Minimum: Requires a bachelor's degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or similar field and two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Preferred: An advanced degree, AT certification, and three or more years of experience working with students with disabilities in a higher education setting is preferred.
