About the role

Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center (BOEC) seeks to expand the potential of people with disabilities through adaptive snow sports instruction. The internship offers hands-on experience teaching adaptive skiing and snowboarding to participants with various disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and teach adaptive skiing and snowboarding techniques to participants with a variety of disabilities.
  • Assess and recognize the needs/strengths of the student and implement the Ski or Ride lesson accordingly.
  • Review and update reports before and after each lesson, including goals, progress notes, medical information, personal history, needs/strengths, and performance.
  • Develop the knowledge and skills to become the primary instructor on lessons by mid-season.
  • Create a positive experience for all individuals involved in BOEC's mission, supporting, empowering, and engaging with staff, volunteers, participants, and other interns.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications required.
  • Health insurance coverage.
  • Ability to commit to the entire season.
  • Self-motivated, takes initiative, and has experience working with people with disabilities and special needs.
  • Strong sense of hard work, flexibility, love of the outdoors, and a love for working with people.
