Adaptive Physical Education Teacher (Districtwide)

Full-time position (1.0 FTE) within the Student Services Department, serving students K-12 districtwide.

About the role

The successful individual will contribute to a dynamic and innovative team, enhancing the educational program by structuring and adapting physical education programs to support IEP goals. This role involves collaborating with educators and support staff to develop accommodations, modifications, or individualized physical education programs tailored to student needs. The educator will motivate students to develop appropriate skills while maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Adapt physical education programs for students K-12 to align with IEP goals.
• Develop accommodations, modifications, or individualized physical education programs based on student needs.
• Collaborate with educators and support staff to implement effective adaptations.
• Apply behavioral principles, practices, and strategies for students with adapted physical education needs.
• Maintain confidential and accurate reports, records, and files for individual students.
• Work flexibly across multiple settings within the district.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education.
• Must hold or be eligible to obtain an Alaska teaching certificate with a special education endorsement, adaptive PE endorsement, or service provider certificate in physical therapy, occupational therapy, or mobility and orientation prior to start.
• Knowledge and practical application of behavioral principles, practices, methods, and strategies for students with adapted physical education needs.
• Familiarity with current research in the field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Recent experience teaching adaptive physical education.
• Understanding of IDEA requirements.
