Acute Patient Care Technician

About the Role

The Acute Patient Care Technician must demonstrate familiarity with dialysis procedures and the knowledge, skills, and judgment necessary to assume the responsibility of caring for, or supporting the care of, the dialysis patient in the acute or post-acute care setting. This position ensures an atmosphere that allows for the privacy, dignity, and well-being of all patients in a safe, secure environment while working under the supervision of a physician or registered nurse experienced or trained in dialysis treatment. The role involves cooperating and collaborating with all co-workers to plan and complete job duties with applicable supervisory direction, including exercising job-appropriate judgment.

Responsibilities

• Support the care of dialysis patients in acute or post-acute settings.
• Uphold patient rights, privacy, dignity, and well-being.
• Work collaboratively with physicians, registered nurses, and co-workers.
• Follow unit-specific training and demonstrate competency in dialysis procedures.
• Adhere to safety rules, interpret instructions, and communicate effectively with clients and colleagues.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required, or 4+ years of dialysis experience if allowed by state regulations.
• Completion of unit-specific training with demonstrated competency.
• Must meet state/licensing requirements.
• Current certification from BONENT, NNCC, NNCO, and/or state certification as applicable (new PCTs must certify within a reasonable timeframe).
• Previous ESRD experience preferred.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required for experienced PCTs; new PCTs must obtain within 30 days.
