Acute Medicine RN (Unit 6200) (FT) (DAYS)

About the Role

6200 Acute Care Medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (South Campus) is a 25-bed unit specializing in managing patients with a full range of clinical issues, including significant blood dyscrasias, advanced endocrine pathology, heart and renal failure, GI conditions, infectious diseases, asthma, and other conditions. Due to patient acuity, advanced training is provided to bring new nurses to the highest level of functioning.

Each unit is led by a clinical manager and lead charge nurse, supported by an advanced practice nurse. The unit is also assigned a case manager, social worker, physical therapist, dietitian, and pharmacist. This multidisciplinary team collaborates with physicians, nurses, and patient care technicians to provide quality patient care.

Schedule

Full-time days (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM), 12-hour shifts.

• 4:5 patient-to-nurse ratio

Responsibilities

• Promotes patient and family-centered care in a healing environment.
• Educates patients and families on managing illness or injury, including post-treatment home care and medication administration.
• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
• Participates in professional development.
• Develops, implements, and documents individualized plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team, patient, family, or caregiver, following established nursing care guidelines.
• Proactively plans and ensures communication of the care plan across the continuum of care.
• Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care.
• Assesses patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.

Minimum Requirements

• Education: Nursing Diploma or Associate's in Nursing
• Experience: No prior experience required
• Licenses & Certifications: RN (Registered Nurse)
