About the Unit

The 15AB unit at TriHealth Good Samaritan Hospital specializes in providing comprehensive care for patients undergoing vascular, plastic, and general surgical procedures. Our experienced team cares for patients recovering from a wide range of surgeries, including:

• Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair
• Carotid endarterectomy
• Femoral-popliteal bypass
• Abdominal surgeries
• Fasciotomies
• Reconstructive procedures such as TRAM flap surgeries, mastectomies with reconstruction, and mammoplasty reductions

Additionally, the 15AB unit provides care for various medical patients requiring close monitoring. We are equipped with telemetry monitoring to track cardiac rhythms and manage cardiac drips, ensuring our patients receive the highest level of care during their stay. The unit offers a supportive environment for both patients and staff, with a focus on collaboration and ongoing education.

Part Time (24 hours weekly), Day Shift (7am-7:30pm)

Overview

Provides assistance and/or performs basic activities of daily living and specified treatments and procedures under the direct supervision of the nurse. May perform non-direct patient care activities as assigned, requested, or directed, including but not limited to stocking and clerical activities.

Acute Care Techs in this position have less than 6 months of clinical experience and no clinical certificate or training. They are enrolled in the Acute Care Tech Foundations program at TriHealth. Upon completion of the program and at 6 months, they transition to the Acute Care Tech I or Acute Care Tech II position if they demonstrate independence in all competencies or add Unit Coordinator responsibilities.

Requirements

• 2 years of high school education
• Age 17 with work permit
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Reading and math ability appropriate to the position

Responsibilities

• Performs and documents basic patient care tasks under the direct supervision of an RN.
• Maintains competency of tasks in which the PCA has been trained and completes assigned tasks within the required timeframe.
• Seeks clarification from the nurse when in doubt about how to proceed.
• Maintains a safe environment, reports safety hazards, and completes safety event reports as necessary.
• Complies with Infection Control policies and demonstrates knowledge of safety/emergency procedures.
• Communicates effectively with patients, families, and co-workers, reporting patient-related information in a timely manner.
• Documents observations and tasks performed.
• Works in collaboration with all members of the healthcare team and utilizes the chain of command appropriately.
• Performs supply, equipment, and environmental-related activities, ensuring equipment and supplies are readily available.
• Recognizes and reports issues with supply or equipment availability and follows up on broken or malfunctioning equipment.
• Identifies areas for self-improvement and supports organizational and unit changes.
