A Brief Overview

Perioperative nursing involves the care of individuals undergoing surgical procedures or procedures requiring anesthesia. It includes pre-procedure care, intraoperative and acute post-operative care, and follows a multidisciplinary approach. Nurses adhere to strict safety protocols, including surgical safety checklists, sterility, and post-operative airway, pain, and nausea management. They also educate patients on post-operative care.

Education Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)

Licenses and Certifications

• Registered Nurse - KSBN
• Multistate license with ability to practice in Kansas

Required Basic Life Support (BLS)

• Completes pre-operative care and tasks according to pre-procedure orders and safety protocols.
• Educates on post-operative discharge instructions.
• Delivers professional nursing care guided by Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring.
• Demonstrates advocacy and respects diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Communicates effectively in all areas of professional practice.
• Mentors nurses new to their role.
• Supports students to enhance their knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Commits to lifelong learning through critical thinking, self-reflection, and inquiry.
• Utilizes appropriate resources to plan, provide, and sustain evidence-based nursing services.
• Complies with all policies, standards, mandatory training, and requirements of Stormont Vail Health.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
