Acute Care Nurse Practitioner - Physician Assistant - Emergency Medicine - PRN

About the Role

This position works in a collaborative model including residents, fellows, attendings, and staff who care for emergency medicine patients across the organization's hospital network. Under the supervision of the Medical Director or approved staff physician, and in association with PCCs, staff nurses, and discharge coordinators, you will participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of medical and nursing care. Responsibilities include primary and urgent medical management, emergency stabilization of critically ill patients, teaching residents and medical students, staff development and education, patient education, and discharge planning.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes approved medical practices in the delivery of patient care.
  • Provides care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and age-specific criteria for patients served.
  • Maintains an attitude of inquiry toward medical practices and patient care outcomes; may develop research methodology.
  • Provides educational experiences to patient families, staff, other health professionals, and the community.
  • Adapts behavior to specific patient populations, including respect for privacy, communication style, and explanation of services.
  • Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements applicable to the assigned area.
  • Other related duties as required, including compliance with the employer’s Compliance & Privacy Program and Standards of Conduct.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant medicine or Health Sciences, or graduate of an approved Physician Assistant Training Program.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing (Required).
  • License as a Physician Assistant in the state of practice, NCCPA Certified, and BCLS/ACLS Certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Eligible for Prescriptive Authority in the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Medical Examiners.
  • Current License as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of practice.
  • ANCC or AANPCP Certified as an Adult/Geriatric Nurse Practitioner or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.
  • Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and retrieval of job-related information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Windows-style applications, role-specific software, and keyboard.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and working knowledge of Advanced Practice Provider policies and protocols.
  • Reliable transportation for travel between facilities.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including 24/7 availability, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.

Skills

  • Ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Working knowledge of Advanced Practice Provider policies at department and system levels.
  • Manual dexterity and physical ability to perform job duties, including prolonged standing, stooping, bending, and reaching.

Physical and Environmental Demands

  • Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently, and negligible to 10 pounds constantly.
  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods, stoop, bend, reach, and demonstrate manual dexterity.
  • Routine exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue; occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases.
  • Potential exposure to hazardous medications or waste within the healthcare environment.
