About the role
The Acute Care Director is responsible for overseeing nursing care and support services in specialties such as Medical/Surgical, Telemetry, ICU, and Intensive Care Unit. This role involves providing clinical leadership, promoting evidence-based care, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and services
- Promote integration of evidence-based knowledge into patient care
- Maintain regulatory standards and customer service expectations
- Review, revise, and implement policies for department operations
- Monitor and adjust department budgets, explain variances, and ensure cost-effective utilization
- Resolve concerns related to patient care
- Write and implement strategic plans
- Collaborate with medical staff on patient care needs
- Support the Medical Center's mission and philosophy
- Coordinate patient care within nursing departments and assist with specialty procedures
- Maintain professional knowledge and enforce policies
- Participate in quality improvement projects
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing
- Current RN license in Missouri
- BSN required or enrolled in BSN program within 6 months of hire
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- At least 5 years of experience in Acute Care (Med/Surgical, Telemetry, and/or ICU)
- 3-5 years of supervisory or management experience
- American Heart Association (AHA) BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required or obtainable within 6 months
- Self-motivated and able to work within established policies and practices
Physical/Mental Requirements
- Sit and stand for long periods
- Use standard office equipment and utilize manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing
- Reach above shoulder and lift/carry up to 40 lbs occasionally
- Walk on uneven surfaces occasionally
