Actuarial Senior Consultant – Pricing (Healthcare Medical Malpractice)

About the role
In this role, you will help shape the pricing strategy for CNA's Medical Professional Liability portfolio across a diverse range of healthcare segments, including Dentists, Nurses, Physicians, Aging Services, and Allied Facilities. Working closely with business partners and senior actuarial leaders, you will develop analyses and recommendations that directly influence pricing decisions and long-term business strategy. You'll gain broad exposure to the business while developing healthcare expertise and strengthening your technical, strategic, and communication skills. Prior healthcare pricing experience is a plus but not required.
Exam-taking candidates can participate in our Actuarial Education Program, which provides competitive study support and exam raises as you grow your skills. This position works a flexible, hybrid schedule from a CNA Actuarial Hub Location including Chicago, IL; Radnor, PA; Warren, NJ; New York City, NY; and Walnut Creek, CA.
Responsibilities
- Establish relationships with business partners and functional subject matter experts, providing actuarial guidance as needed.
- Build strong relationships with peers, business partners, and leaders to influence a specific segment's strategy through actionable insights and analytics.
- Provide analyses and insights to assist in determining pricing strategy for Healthcare Pricing; may create and modify existing tools/analytics as needed.
- Proactively monitor profitability/reserving and claim trends for Healthcare Pricing and share results with recommendations to leaders and underwriting partners.
- Provide guidance to less experienced team members and manage projects as needed.
- Produce highly technical actuarial analyses and reports; communicate findings to other analytical staff and management.
- Stay up to date on actuarial expertise and industry trends and development.
- Drive innovation in processes while maintaining clear documentation of methods.
- Leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve efficiency and enhance analytical capabilities.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent.
- Typically a minimum of seven years of related work experience.
- ACAS or FCAS certification.

- Strong knowledge of core functions of an insurance company and actuarial and statistical concepts.
- Advanced actuarial technical expertise and product-specific knowledge.
- Ability to effectively communicate and influence using analyses at various levels, including senior leadership.

- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to effectively resolve complex situations and issues.

Pay
In Illinois, New York, and California, the average base pay range for a Senior Actuarial Consultant is $134,500 to $190,500. In District of Columbia, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $72,000 to $141,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and location.
