Actuarial Reserving Intern - Summer 2027

About the role

Core Specialty Insurance offers a 12‑week summer internship where interns are treated as valued members of the team and are given meaningful, real‑life work. Interns on the Actuarial Reserving team receive support and guidance from senior actuaries while continuing on their actuarial exam path.

Responsibilities

• Perform and prepare quarterly reserve reviews to support adequate and accurate reserves recorded.
• Create and distribute the Quarterly Reserve Report.
• Create and distribute CAT reporting, including a process for tracking incurred claims against reserve indication on a monthly basis.
• Monitor loss emergence against plan assumptions and provide summaries to management.
• Create and distribute Monthly AvE: CAT, Large Loss and Attritional.
• Develop and monitor monthly metrics to identify trends in loss costs, maintaining stable attritional loss ratios.

Requirements

• Passed at least one actuarial exam (strongly preferred).
• Basic Excel experience.
• Interest in the insurance industry.
• Knowledge of the actuarial exam process.
• Strong organization and communication skills.
• Ability to learn, understand, and apply technical concepts.
• Ownership of tasks and ability to work within deadlines with guidance.
• Effective time management and prioritization with guidance.
• Adaptability based on prior mistakes and openness to feedback.
• Willingness to seek assistance as needed.

• Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related field.
• Demonstrated progress in understanding and applying basic actuarial principles.
• Studying for CAS preliminary exams; may have 1–2 exams passed.
• Must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States; the company cannot sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa.
