About the role
Arch Insurance Group, part of Arch Capital Ltd, is seeking a motivated actuarial candidate to join a dynamic Reserving & Loss Analytics team. This leadership role will assist with reserving, loss analytics, and results management for the recently acquired Middle Market and Entertainment Business Divisions. You will also be responsible for co-leading the ongoing M&A integration efforts on behalf of the Reserving & Loss Analytics team.
Responsibilities
- Partnering with leaders in the actuarial department to identify key priorities for developing new models and improving existing frameworks
- Working in close collaboration with underwriting, pricing, claims and finance to develop a common view of the business
- Leading projects across the Reserving & Loss Analytics Team and getting work done in collaboration with others
- Providing proactive insights, identifying the drivers, and ensuring that the reserve analyses reflect any changes in the portfolio to minimize volatility and avoid surprises
- Applying innovative approaches and leading-edge tools to analyze the business
- Seeking opportunities to leverage advanced analytics to provide greater insights
- Ensuring the quality of the data and its consistent application in the reserving process
- Partnering with the finance organization to provide accurate, timely, and granular analyses to support the quarterly financial reporting process
- Collaborating with the global actuarial organization and the business units to share knowledge
- Assuming an active leadership role within Arch’s actuarial community and keeping abreast of new reserving methodologies, trends, and product/tort reforms and other external issues
- Potential to manage a small team of direct reports
- Managing the fronting arrangement for the acquired business on behalf of the Reserving & Loss Analytics Team
Requirements
- Software skills: Excel (expert), Word, PowerPoint; Power BI (preferred), database and programming skills required such as SQL (expert), Snowflake knowledge (preferred), Python knowledge (preferred)
- Self-sufficient with competence to progress and build comprehensive reserving models and analytic solutions to improve the financial close process
- Leadership: strength and experience as a teacher, manager, peer, leader, and contributor to a positive culture
- Efficiency: productivity and organizational skills
- Analytical and quantitative skills: theoretical foundation, work quality, productivity, creativity, ingenuity
- A well-rounded actuary with deep knowledge of a wide range of commercial and specialty lines as well as reinsurance
- A successful track record managing a complex workload and demonstrated ability to work well with other departments and outside parties
- Experience presenting to executive management and external stakeholders
- Strong business judgment and ability to operate with ambiguity
- Demonstrated experience affecting change and gaining buy-in

Qualifications
- A university degree in a quantitative discipline
- Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (strong ACAS candidates will be considered)
- 7+ years’ experience in progressively senior but technical and hands-on actuarial roles within the property and casualty insurance industry
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a reserving or loss analytics function and team preferred
