Actuarial Associate, Excess Casualty Pricing and Modeling - REMOTE

About the Role
Nationwide’s Excess Casualty Lines team is hiring a Pricing Modeler to help shape sophisticated insurance pricing and deliver insights that influence business decisions. In this position, you will work at the intersection of pricing strategy, actuarial thinking, and predictive analytics. You will partner closely with teammates and business partners to build, enhance, and refine excess casualty insurance pricing. You will also have the opportunity to work across teams on a variety of projects, expand your technical toolkit, and deepen your understanding of how pricing drives real business outcomes.
This role can be staffed fully remote within any of the lower 48 U.S. states.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a technical expert in actuarial methodologies, conducting complex analyses and providing high-level consultation.
- Build and maintain business relationships, leading pricing and product initiatives.
- Partner with business stakeholders to deliver actionable, data-driven insights that inform strategic decisions.
- Research and implement financial engineering, data science, and statistical techniques for risk management and business applications.
- Complete regular testing of risk limits to provide distinct management guidance on asset allocation, risk transfer, and product growth decisions.
- Own complex quantitative modeling processes and philosophies; identify industry standards to ensure models are working as intended.
- Collaborate to ensure consistent model assumptions, processes, and outputs are well understood and that modeling standard methodologies are upheld.
- Review and analyze model output to identify model limitations and their impact; provide corrective quantitative methods.
- Craft and update model documentation for business continuity purposes.
- Collaborate to develop creative solutions to business problems.
- Act as the technology owner for Risk Analytics.
Requirements
- Undergraduate studies in finance, accounting, economics, statistics, mathematics, or related subject area required. Graduate-level studies in a related field with an advanced degree highly desirable.
- Progress toward FCAS, FSA, CQF, CFA, or similar certification preferred.
- Typically, five or more years of related work experience in financial risk modeling or actuarial functions.
- Working knowledge of machine learning, stochastic processes, Monte Carlo simulations, sampling methods, and other statistical techniques applicable to specialized risk modeling.
- Mathematical knowledge of specialized risk models such as those used in hedging, economic scenario generation, catastrophe, credit risk, etc.
- Solid understanding of risk management operations such as asset-liability management, portfolio risk assessment, hedging, etc.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
- Intermediate proficiency with Excel and common statistical software such as R, SAS, Python, or MATLAB.
Highly Preferred Qualifications
- A minimum of five years of actuarial experience.
- ACAS certification and working towards FCAS or recently attained FCAS.
- Proficiency in Python, R, Power BI, Databricks, SQL, analytical software, and programming languages.
- Experience in leading cross-functional teams and developing strategic pricing plans.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently.

Pay
The national salary range for Consultant, Risk Analytics Researcher is $118,000.00–$222,000.00. The expected starting salary range for this role is $118,000.00–$178,000.00. Placement within the range will be determined by skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope, complexity, location, and other conditions of employment. Sales incentives based on performance goals are possible in addition to this range.
