Actor Trainer - Helping Others Desk (Part-time)

About the role

Actor Trainers are lead-level individual contributors responsible for ensuring that in-residence missionaries receive effective teaching opportunities by leading actors, conducting individual and group trainings, and facilitating ongoing improvement and coaching of actor performance. It is expected that an Actor Trainer will assist in overseeing the work of 10-15 actors.

Responsibilities

  • Trains and provides ongoing evaluation and development of actors (75%)
    • Provides individual coaching and continuing in-service training of actors through leading weekly meetings
    • Provides actors with materials and policy information
    • Observes and evaluates actors
    • Facilitates opportunities for actor improvement according to needs
    • Assists the Manager of Training in training new actors prior to interpretation experience
    • Ensures actors understand and effectively interpret MTC meetings
    • Leads in establishing updates or new MTC interpretation guidelines
    • Fills in as an actor when needed
  • Leads in advocating for actor effectiveness (10%)
    • Evaluates missionary teaching appointment experience
    • Leads actors in providing for the individual needs of missionaries
    • Leads actors in creating an ideal teaching environment
  • Administrative Functions (5%)
    • Handles day-to-day supervisory matters, conferring with Manager of Training regarding disciplinary issues
    • Provides timely recommendations for actor merit increases
    • Coordinates with other supervisors regarding common employees/meetings
  • Assists the Manager of Training (10%)
    • Reports actor performance to the Manager of Training
    • Assists in interviewing, evaluating candidates’ acting capacities, and making hiring decisions
    • Assists in area training meetings
    • Assists in coordinating training resources
    • Provides recommendations for actor dismissal
  • May be asked to assist in assessing the proficiency level of missionaries, interpreters, and teacher applicants in the target language
  • May take on MTC actor responsibilities as needs arise
  • May include other temporary assigned duties at the MTC (e.g., assisting with Mission Leadership Seminar)

Requirements

  • 6 months experience as an MTC actor or teacher or 1 year experience with teaching, training, or tutoring in any capacity
  • Must be fluent in a non-native language (except for English or ESL area assignment)
  • Must have a solid understanding of MTC training principles
  • Demonstrates problem-solving and organizational abilities
  • Exceptional training competence
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to handle pressure well
  • Technology skills to adequately function in the MTC environment
  • Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Solid understanding of Preach My Gospel
  • Encouraging attitude, proactivity, and self-motivation
  • Experience having served as a missionary
  • Must be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and currently temple worthy

To successfully perform the essential functions of the job, there may be physical requirements which need to be met such as sitting for long periods of time and using monitors/equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 year of experience as an MTC actor or teacher
