About the Role

Spring Mountain Treatment Center is a 110-bed mental health facility providing acute crisis stabilization services for adults, teens, and children in a secure inpatient setting since 2001. Our individualized treatment includes a structured, therapeutic environment, intensive physician involvement and oversight, and daily group and educational programs. As a PRN Activity Therapist (CTRS required), you will provide quality case management and psychotherapeutic services to Spring Mountain’s populations, serve as a member of a multi-disciplinary team supporting the hospital’s treatment program and philosophy, and ensure the delivery of quality treatment to patients and their family members. You will also provide social histories, case management, and psycho-educational groups to age-specific populations.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, implements, and evaluates activity therapy programs, including assessment, treatment planning, implementation, evaluation, and discharge planning.
  • Plans and directs recreational activities, structured diversion, or outings with direction from the Program Director and Activity Therapy Coordinator.
  • Maintains Activity Therapy charting policy and procedures for your own caseload.
  • Plans and implements treatment-oriented activities outside the hospital setting.
  • Implements therapeutic recreation programs for assigned units.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required by this position.

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree from an Accredited University in Recreation Therapy.
  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), Art Therapist with certification, or any recreation therapy specialty.
  • Certified in CPR/First Aid.
  • Minimum of one year of experience working in a psychiatric facility preferred.
  • Ability to administer Activity Therapy assessments and interpret them to write Individual Treatment Plans (ITPs).
  • Knowledge of treatment programs, leisure education, social skill development, arts, and sports; ability to modify activities according to patient participation and/or disability.
  • Experience with age-specific inpatient settings preferred.
  • Experience in taking psychosocial history and case management.
  • Knowledge of developmental psychology of adolescents and adults and the capacity to identify pertinent clinical information.
  • Knowledge of clinical issues related to substance abuse patients and their discharge planning.
  • Good communication skills (reading, writing, and speaking).
  • Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.
  • Good leadership qualities, including self-control, patience, and empathy.
  • Obtain BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • New hires must attend 1 full week of New Employee Orientation on day shift (normally 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday).
  • Must successfully pass a background check (includes criminal history, Child Abuse and Neglect Registry, and ABI/FBI fingerprint check).
