Activity Specialist - Soccer Trainer
Job Summary
As part of our Youth Services Department’s vision, all Youth Services Staff will assist in promoting growth, leadership, and positive self-image in all young people at all of our Grand Street Settlement sites. Our Activity Specialists will assist in the day-to-day functioning of the program and ensure that youth are learning and building hard skills. Specifically, the Soccer Trainer will focus on developing students' technical soccer skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and overall physical fitness through structured physical activity.
Education, Experience And Requirements
- High School Diploma required; College Degree Preferred
- Must have 3+ years’ experience playing, coaching, or training in soccer
- Must have experience working with and devising curricula/practice plans around soccer and physical fitness
- Ideal candidate has previous experience with sports instruction, coaching youth teams, and/or facilitating athletic lessons
- Candidate must be very responsible, organized, & demonstrate positive communication skills
- Candidate is personable, energetic, & enthusiastic
- Candidate must successfully complete the following:
- NYSDOH Fingerprinting Screening
- New York State Clearance Review Background Check
- 3 Reference Checks
- Physical w/ updated TB Test (Fees may apply)
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Complete 15 hours of training as per school-age child care requirements within the first three months of hire and attend two mandatory agency-wide Professional Development trainings
- Supervise all participants particularly during athletic and special activities
- Maintain the gym or outdoor play space in an organized and clean fashion
- Maintain a daily log of all incidents/injuries
- Chaperone youth group during trips and other field activities
- Assist with all aspects of programming (i.e., following the organization's mission; supervising all youth, working collectively and communicating with all staff)
- Administer administrative duties including: follow-up calls to parents, attend all required department/agency meetings and/or training, create age-appropriate lessons, practice plans, and curriculum around soccer fundamentals, implement and facilitate soccer drills, scrimmages, and recreational activities for the school year, take initiative to assist program participants and group leaders as seen fit, maintain program sports supplies (e.g., soccer balls, cones, pinnies, goals), help enforce all rules and regulations and codes of conduct, emphasizing good sportsmanship
- Ensure Safety
- Be able to supervise a group of children and participate in active physical activities; provide and maintain a safe playing and working environment
- Maintain adequate supplies in first aid and safety kits, keeping them accessible during physical activity
- Adhere to COVID-19 protocols
- Maintain medical and emergency contact information for each participant (especially noting asthma or physical limitations)
- Maintain a daily log of all incidents/injuries
- Prepare attendance reports and other reports as required
- Know and adhere to all regulations and procedures outlined in the safety plan
