Job Summary

Responsible for assisting with planning and conducting a variety of activity programs to meet physical, social, mental and spiritual needs of residents. Contributes to overall success of activity program. Supports Village mission, vision and values.

Essential Job Functions

  • Directly delivers the execution of activities and events that are part of the activity programming for residents.
  • Aids in the development of new programs/services to expand program and enhance participation.
  • Affirms supplies and equipment are available for effective operation of programs.
  • Aids in transporting residents living in licensed areas to and from activity functions.
  • Leads group activities and one-to-one visits as indicated.
  • Maintains records of participation and performance as requested.
  • May utilize existing equipment and computer technology to show movies, search information for classes.
  • Interacts with residents to promote and maintain a positive atmosphere of warmth and calmness.
  • Fulfills infection control practices.
  • Organizes and assists with special outings.
  • Aid in planning and decorating for small and large events, holiday gatherings and weekly activities.
  • Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.
  • Able to handle stress and get along with others within the workplace and with customers outside the department.
  • Maintain acceptable standards of workplace conduct.

Essential Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent. College level study, preferred.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Specialty certification as personal trainer, exercise specialist, fitness instructor, health and fitness specialist or similar area, preferred. Must have appropriate Driver’s License if assigned to driving responsibility (must obtain within 90 days of hire).
  • Knowledge and Skills: Ability to demonstrate appropriate exercises and activities to residents. Ability to type with basic keyboarding skills. Basic level skills using Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint. Strong interpersonal, teamwork, customer service and problem-solving skills. Strong organizational skills; ability to handle multiple priorities. Strong creativity skills. Ability to work without direct supervision. Ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to write simple sentences, paragraphs and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to residents, family members, and other associates of the organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Special Working Conditions

  • Inside environmental conditions which provide protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
  • Occasional exposure to chemicals used in various activity/craft projects.
  • Expected to work on occasional weekends and holidays.
  • May be exposed to infectious diseases if working in a licensed area.
  • The associate is required to function around individuals with challenged mental capacities.
  • All associates may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Medium Work – Exerting up to 50 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs of force constantly to move objects.

  • Visual acuity with or without correction to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures.
  • Stooping by bending spine at the waist downward and forward; kneeling on the knee to come to a rest; climbing stairs and ramps, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms; and crouching downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
  • Reaching hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction; pushing forward, downward or outward; and lifting objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position.
  • Walking to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Finger with whole hand or arm such as picking, pinching or typing; grasping by applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm and feeling attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
  • Talking to expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word accurately, loudly, and/or quickly; and hearing sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.

Supervision Received/Given

  • Receives direction from the Activity Manager.
  • May give direction to volunteers.
