Activity Aide

About the role

The Activity Aide’s primary purpose is to provide recreational activities for residents. You will assist in planning, conducting, and participating in resident group activity programs and one-on-one activities, presenting programs according to physical and cognitive ability and interests while ensuring a safe environment for residents at all times.

Responsibilities

• Help residents maintain their highest level of functioning by presenting appropriate activity programs.
• Motivate residents to take an interest in their life and community by investigating alternative methods of activities.
• Prepare Recreational therapy (dementia group) as assigned on a weekly basis.
• Deliver mail, flowers, and other items to residents in a timely manner.
• Read mail to residents upon request.
• Prepare for activity program(s), ensuring supplies are available and the room is ready.
• Encourage residents to participate and announce activities 30 minutes prior to start.
• Assist in transporting residents to activity programs.
• Conduct resident shopping as requested.
• Accompany residents outside the facility to participate in community events.
• Assist residents in craft projects and activities, including creating decorations, setting up equipment, and awarding prizes.
• Supervise activities as necessary and ensure resident safety during activities.
• Perform proper chart documentation of resident participation and evaluation.
• Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous long-term care experience is desirable.
• Artistic background or previous instruction from a certified activity consultant.

Schedule

• 8:30am – 4:30pm
• 12:00pm – 4:30pm
• 1:00pm – 9:00pm
• 5:00pm – 9:00pm
