About the role

Betsy Ross Nursing & Rehab Center is a 120‑bed facility offering excellence in rehabilitation and skilled nursing care in a lovely homelike environment that’s newly renovated and under new administration. With a focus on rehabilitation and recovery, our skilled team of therapists and healthcare professionals assists residents in achieving optimal health and well‑being. We provide residents a tranquil and peaceful backdrop for rehabilitation. Our mission is to deliver high‑quality care with respect and compassion through a team approach that emphasizes personalized goals. The Activity Aide implements social, recreational, and therapeutic programs—including events, outings, regular recurring activities, and other opportunities—to meet the physical, mental, emotional, and social needs and interests of residents as outlined on the monthly recreation calendar.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with residents, promoting participation in individual, group, or independent recreation or leisure interests.
• Assist residents in becoming meaningfully engaged in recreation programs that meet their needs, capabilities, and interests.
• Help residents go to, move about during, and return from activities using good body mechanics and safe transfer techniques.
• Orient and coordinate the involvement of others who participate in facility activities.
• Carry out regular one‑to‑one activities with residents and record them in the attendance book.
• Maintain ongoing, accurate progress notes and attendance records for all residents to and from activities.
• Assist with charting, flowsheet documentation, and other paperwork related to the recreation therapy department.
• Maintain recreation equipment and supplies.
• Assume responsibility for the physical set‑up and break‑down of rooms when assigned to an activity.
• Maintain and display artwork for decorations, internal publicity, plants, and horticulture items.
• Assist with special department projects, including pet therapy.

Requirements

• Familiarity with recreational therapy principles and practices, residents’ rights, and facility policies and procedures (preferred).
• Good skills in working and communicating with residents.
• Energy, enthusiasm, and creativity when working with residents.
• Previous experience with geriatric patients is a huge plus.
• High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred, not required).
• Ability to work well under pressure and harmoniously with all staff.
• Sincere desire to work with the elderly, chronically ill, and handicapped.
• Spirit of cooperation and enthusiasm.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to communicate verbally with residents, families, and staff.
• Treat residents and fellow staff with respect, dignity, and compassion.
• Must be able to work every other weekend and some holidays.
• COVID‑19 vaccinations are encouraged but not mandated; vaccinations offered based on CDC eligibility guidance.

Schedule

Part‑time position requiring work every other weekend, some additional weekends, with shifts from 8 AM to 4 PM.
