Activities Coordinator – Residential Youth Services Location: St. Augustine, FL Job Type: Full-Time Pay: $43,000 - $48,000 / year About Youth Opportunity & St. Augustine Youth Academy Youth Opportunity is a nationally recognized leader in residential and behavioral health treatment for at-risk youth. St. Augustine Youth Academy in St. Augustine, Florida, is a secure 70-bed Youth Academy serving males ages 13 to 17, providing trauma-informed care for mental health and substance abuse treatment needs. The center integrates clinical therapy, education, restorative justice, therapeutic recreation, and life skills development. Youth typically stay according to individual treatment progress, engaging in individual, family, and group therapy; victim impact awareness; pre-vocational preparation; and enrichment activities including art, music, and recreation. Small group living units and licensed dietitian-managed nutrition promote stabilization and successful community reintegration. These programs promote pro-social behavior, physical engagement, and reintegration into the community while enhancing coping, communication, and leadership skills. Key Responsibilities Plan, organize, and coordinate structured recreation and leisure activitiesUse intervention modalities such as creative arts, sports, dance/movement, adventure programming, and leisure educationProvide recreational programming during non-traditional hours to promote pro-social behaviorAssess youth capabilities, interests, and needs; adjust activities based on progress and goalsConsult with clinicians, physicians, and treatment teams to align recreational goals with treatment plansParticipate in care planning and team meetingsDesign instructional strategies and community reintegration activities to build skills and confidenceTailor programs to meet individual youth learning styles, emotional needs, and physical abilitiesApply clinical knowledge to support individualized goal achievementDocument treatment progress in accordance with plans of care Other Duties Include Participate in team discussions, providing effective input and strategiesAttend case conferences and family education meetingsMaintain confidentiality and professional conduct at all timesUse appropriate teaching methods in all instruction and discharge activitiesPerform other duties as assigned Qualifications Required: Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a related fieldAt least one year of experience in recreational or play therapyAbility to pass a background check and drug screening Preferred Experience working with youth and adolescents in a residential or therapeutic settingFamiliarity with group dynamics, experiential education, and Medicaid documentation Physical Demands Must be in good physical health and emotionally stableAble to actively engage in physical recreation with youthMust be able to transport youth or staff as neededMust be free of communicable diseases as defined by the stateMust pass PAR (Professional Assault Response) evaluation and certification Other Requirements Valid state driver’s licenseMust meet state criminal background check requirementsMust meet company auto insurance and driving requirements Apply Today Make a difference with us.
