About the role
The Long Term Care (LTC) Activities Assistant at GSS MN Howard Lake Ctr plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for patients and residents through various activities and interventions.
Responsibilities
- Improves the quality of life by providing appropriate, meaningful activities and interventions on a one-on-one and/or group basis.
- Administers the monthly activity calendar and regularly elicits patients/residents' input into activity planning.
- Keeps activities well organized and upbeat, adhering to all state-required activities such as music, craft, and spiritual activities.
- Participates in activities suitable for the patient/department and residents to support optimal functioning and maintain dignity and identity.
- Assists with simple nursing procedures and transports patients/residents between rooms.
- Documents Minimum Data Set's (MDS's)/EPIC's information accurately.
- Displays creativity, resourcefulness, and excellent communication skills.
- Works autonomously, prioritizing responsibilities and managing resources effectively.
- Develops and motivates people, demonstrating leadership abilities.
- Manages strong-willed patients/residents and/or behavioral issues with critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
- Experience in social services or creative activities preferred.
- Experience in geriatrics preferred.
- Knowledge of working with a wide variety of resident demographics.
- Possession of a Certified Nurses Assistant (CNA) certification or enrollment in a healthcare-related program preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required based on location.
- May require CPR certification within six months of hire.
- Obtains and maintains required department-specific competencies and certifications.
- May require a motor vehicle report and valid driver’s license for Sanford Category I or II Driver positions.
- Must be medically qualified to perform essential driving functions as per Sanford’s Driving Policy.

Pay
$16.50 - $22.50 per hour.
Schedule
Part time, 5.00 weekly hours, every other Saturday and Sunday, shift is 10am to 3pm, potential to pick up additional hours during the week as available, but only scheduled every other weekend.
