Key Responsibilities
- Aid in planning and coordinating daily activities
- Prepare and distribute the monthly activity calendar and newsletter
- Purchase activity supplies as needed
- Distribute resident mail daily
- Support and direct resident movement to and from activity areas
- Announce scheduled activities over the intercom
- Cookbook and supervise volunteer participation
- Plan and lead activities in the absence of the Activity Coordinator
- Perform other activity-related or administrative duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One year of experience in a social or recreational program within a licensed healthcare setting preferred
- Background in music, art, drama, or dance therapy preferred
- Ability to engage residents with dementia in meaningful, supportive activities
- Strong communication, patience, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to follow schedules, manage multiple tasks, and work both independently and as part of a team
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
- Frequent standing, stooping, bending, stretching, and squatting (approximately 60% of the workday)
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Ability to push residents weighing up to 250 lbs in wheelchairs or geri-chairs
- Read, speak English, hear, and walk intermittently throughout the day
- Exposure to communicable diseases, industrial/household chemicals, odors, and occasional combative behavior
