About the role
We are seeking a compassionate and energetic Life Engagement Assistant to join our team at North Ridge Memory Care, a specialized memory care facility dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for residents living with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. The ideal candidate will be a patient and creative individual with a passion for working with older adults and providing them with fulfilling experiences.
Responsibilities
- Lead and assist in the planning and delivery of individual and group activities, including art, music, exercise, cognitive stimulation, sensory therapies, and other therapeutic activities tailored to the needs and abilities of residents.
- Develop personalized engagement plans for residents based on their individual preferences, history, and cognitive abilities. Provide one-on-one activities for residents who may not participate in group settings.
- Gently motivate and encourage residents to participate in scheduled activities, offering assistance and support where needed while respecting each individual's dignity and preferences.
- Observe and report on residents' moods, behaviors, and reactions during activities. Share insights with the Life Engagement Coordinator and other team members to help tailor care and engagement strategies.
- Support residents in maintaining daily living skills, such as sensory activities, simple exercises, and memory-enhancing tasks, in a way that promotes independence and self-confidence.
- Help organize and participate in special events, holiday celebrations, and outings, ensuring safe, enjoyable experiences for all residents.
- Maintain activity areas and supplies to ensure they are well-organized and stocked. Help with the setup and cleanup of activity spaces before and after programs.
- Create a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment where residents feel valued and supported. Foster positive relationships and encourage socialization among residents.
Requirements
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and connect with residents on a personal level.
- Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude toward working with individuals with memory impairments.
- Creative thinking and a willingness to adapt activities to the needs of each resident.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Basic knowledge of dementia and memory-related conditions is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to assist with physical activities, including helping residents with mobility or positioning.
- Must be able to stand, sit, and move around for extended periods.
