At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. You will be responsible for active thermal control components and systems for the MK1 Lunar Lander from conception through integration with the vehicle.

About the role

In this position, you will design and develop module and vehicle-level active thermal components and assemblies for the MK1 Lunar Lander. This includes supporting internal or external development, collaborating with multi-discipline product teams, and working closely with the thermal analysis group. You will also analyze thermal performance, develop short- and long-term plans, and make decisions on make-or-buy strategies for thermal components.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop module and vehicle-level active thermal components and assemblies (pumps, valves, tubing, radiators, coldplates, etc.) from conception through development and flight operations.
  • Support internal or external development of active thermal components and assemblies.
  • Work with multi-discipline product teams to mature module and vehicle designs.
  • Collaborate closely with the thermal analysis group.
  • Work with subsystem specifications, mission environments, and design and construction standards.
  • Produce outputs including component specifications, test plans, test execution reports, and test reports.
  • Analyze component and assembly thermal performance using techniques ranging from classical hand calculations to Thermal Desktop models.
  • Develop short-term and long-term development plans.
  • Make decisions on make or buy for thermal components.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of relevant Thermal Engineering experience.
  • Expertise in thermal and fluid design fundamentals.
  • Demonstrated experience building and testing thermal hardware.
  • Understanding of aerospace hardware verification and validation process.
  • Experience with CAD software; preferably Creo.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing hardware EBOMs, drawings, and manufacturing artifacts.
  • Experience working in a cross-functional team responsible for selecting materials, manufacturing processes, and developing designs.
