About the Role
The Acoustical Engineering Intern will assist with the design, prototyping, and testing of cutting-edge acoustical systems under the supervision of senior staff. This internship is onsite in Niles, IL.
Responsibilities
- Design and Simulation: Assist with the design, modeling, and simulation of acoustic systems and components.
- Signal Processing: Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of DSP techniques for acoustic system analysis, tuning, and performance optimization.
- System Prototyping: Build and modify prototypes to support acoustic design investigations and engineering evaluations.
- Testing and Measurement: Perform acoustic and electro-acoustic measurements, including frequency response, sensitivity, impedance, and related performance metrics.
- Subjective Evaluation: Participate in structured listening evaluations to assess prototype performance and inform design improvements.
- Project Support: Organize test data, document methods and results, and communicate findings clearly to engineering team members.
Qualifications
- Completion of at least two years of coursework toward a degree in Physics, Acoustical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Digital Signal Processing, or a related field.
- Basic experience with signal generators, spectrum analyzers, audio analyzers, or hardware/software tools for acoustic and electro-acoustic measurements is a plus.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative engineering team environment.
- Strong interest in electro-acoustical transducers, acoustic systems, audio signal processing, or related technologies.
- Experience in live sound production, live performance, audio recording, or audio system setup is desirable.
- Applicants for this position must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Shure will not sponsor applicants for this position for work visas.
Pay
Each internship has an hourly rate which varies from $23-$43 per hour based on job function (Engineering, IT, Business, etc) and year completed in school (Junior, Masters 2nd year, PHD, etc).
