About the role

The Accounting Administrator I will utilize the knowledge of the laws of the State of California, fiscal accounting rules and regulations contained in the State Administrative Manual, the Uniform Codes Manual, and governmental accounting procedures. The incumbent will provide leadership, direction, and evaluation of the work of professional staff engaged in the administration of accounts payable. The Accounting Administrator I will independently perform a variety of professional accounting duties for CalHR and the State Personnel Board (SPB).

Responsibilities

  • Utilize knowledge of laws and regulations to manage accounts payable processes.
  • Evaluate and mentor professional staff in accounts payable administration.
  • Independently perform a variety of professional accounting duties for CalHR and SPB.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • One year of experience in accounts payable or similar administrative accounting duties.
  • Knowledge of governmental accounting and budgeting.
  • Knowledge of the uniform accounting system and financial record keeping.

Qualifications

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with Financial Information System for California (Fl$Cal).
  • Experience with the California Automated Travel Expense Reimbursement System (CalATERS).
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, organizational, time management, and planning skills.

Skills

Skills:

  • Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
  • Knowledge of governmental accounting and budgeting.
  • Knowledge of the uniform accounting system and financial record keeping.
  • Knowledge of principles of business management, public finance, and business law.
  • Ability to reconcile complex governmental funds and prepare financial statements.
  • Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
  • Ability to prepare clear, complete, and concise reports.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, organizational, time management, and planning skills.
