The Bureau for Family Assistance (BFA) Finance Division seeks a detail-oriented Financial Clerk to support vital family assistance programs. About the Role
Financial Clerks are part of a statewide team responsible for purchasing, payment, and accounting functions within an assigned district. The role involves independent and collaborative work to process payments, invoices, and deposits while maintaining accuracy, compliance, and client confidentiality. A valid driver’s license and daily local travel are required, with occasional additional travel for training.
Responsibilities
- Manage time-sensitive client finances for family assistance programs, including billing assistance, utility payments, clothing vouchers, and indigent burial assistance.
- Accept, log, and deposit client repayments.
- Make payments and purchases on behalf of the State of West Virginia using a state-issued credit card.
- Process and audit incoming invoices for payment with state funds.
- Learn and adhere to state purchasing guidelines, Pcard policies, and unit/office procedures.
- Oversee a local bank account and handle various payment types, including cash.
- Compile reports and complete assigned tasks promptly.
- Utilize financial computer systems (WV PATH, WV OASIS) for transactions and tracking.
- Collaborate with internal and external agencies, including other BFA financial staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Graduation from a standard four-year high school or equivalent.
- Three years of full-time (or equivalent part-time) paid experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or related fields.
Qualifications
- Experience with Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel.
- Experience in financial transaction processing and related computer programs.
- Substitution: College-level accounting courses (three semester hours = six months of experience) or related business/vocational training may substitute for experience.
