Accounting Technician 2
Nature of Work
Under general supervision, performs entry-level accounting support duties. The incumbent is responsible for performing routine posting and adjusting to the general ledger, processing claims and invoices, and reviewing transactions for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. Performs related work as required. This is beginning level paraprofessional accounting/auditing work. Duties are distinguished by the recording and balancing of routine financial and numerical data in accordance with agency standards and work procedures.
This Accounting Tech 2 is the trustee clerk. Responsible for all inmate monies. Prepare deposits daily. Prepare checks for inmates sending money out, releases, transfers, etc. Enter all incoming money orders. Works with rapid release and debit card system. Sends daily receipts to units, keeps all files orderly and organized for auditing purposes, balances accounts daily, and provides weekly and monthly reports to units. Maintains spreadsheets to confirm that all balances are correct and deducted accurately to include court orders, clerk orders, restitution, child support, etc. Keeps supervisors updated of any unusual events or errors. This position will also help with purchasing and accounts payable as needed. This position requires one 12 hour shift per week in security.
Minimum Qualifications
- Training: Graduation from a standard four-year high school or the equivalent.
- Experience: Two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid bookkeeping, accounting or related experience.
- Substitution: Successful completion of college-level accounting courses from an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of three semester hours equals six months experience; OR successful completion of related business school or vocational training may be substituted for the experience through an established formula.
College/university-level accounting courses substitute for qualifying experience at the rate of every three semester hours = six months of qualifying experience. Please use the chart below for guidance:

I graduated with a high school diploma (or the equivalent) and have successfully completed a combination of semester hours from an accredited college or university at the rate shown above (or clock hours from a related business school or vocational training program) *AND* full-time or equivalent part-time paid bookkeeping, accounting or related experience to equal a total of two years.
